Golriz Ghahraman is a New Zealand politician, member of Parliament, and author. She is a Green Party member and was born in 1981. She made history when she became the first refugee to be elected to New Zealand’s Parliament. She used to work as a lawyer for the UN before she became President.
Ghahraman has been a part of many events and issues. In a tweet in the middle of July 2019, she said that Mary and Joseph were Palestinian refugees. This led to accusations of anti-Semitism. As she said sorry for what she had said, she acknowledged that it had upset the Jewish community and thanked them for helping refugees.
A spokesperson for the Green Party said that Ghahraman had apologized for her “poorly worded remarks” and would work to improve communication with Jewish groups.
