Golden Kamuy (2024): Story
It takes place in Hokkaido, Japan, in the late Meiji period. Saichi Sugimoto, played by Kento Yamazaki, is a war hero who was known as Immortal Sugimoto during the Russo-Japanese War. He now starts a new life in Hokkaido. To raise money for his plan, he pans for gold in Hokkaido. It is told to him that a man named Noppera-bo stole some gold nuggets that belonged to the native Ainu people.
Noppera-bo is said to have hidden the gold nuggets right before he was caught. There, Noppera-bo tattooed the secret spot on the bodies of 24 other prisoners while they were in jail. Each prisoner had a piece that, when put together, would show where the gold bits were. Then Noppera-bo and those 24 prisoners got away from jail.
Wild bears attack Saichi Sugimoto one day. An Ainu girl named Asirpa (Anna Yamada) saves him at that point. The person who stole the gold nuggets killed Asirpa’s father, and she wants to get back at the person who did it. At different times, Saichi Sugimoto and Asirpa start to work together. More people join the search for the gold bits that are hidden.
