Kariya Mako went back to work as a contract writer for an economics magazine after her divorce. There, she is in charge of a serialization with a focus on low-income women. As she talks to people who are going through different kinds of hard times, she slowly comes to understand that this is a widespread problem that affects many people, including herself, since she is also having trouble keeping a job and raising her kids.
